Making markets work for the poor approach (M4P) in Latin America

Four years ago, SDC was defining a strategy for the dissemination of the M4P approach in Latin America, considering it as a valuable tool for increasing impact and sustainability of development projects, including those that SDC promotes jointly with national and local partners. The implementation of the approach in the region is now a fact and this encouraged SDC and ASOCAM –SDC's Regional Service for Knowledge Management – to organise a regional meeting, in which professionals and development practitioners directly involved with the application of the approach could share experiences and learning and jointly formulate guidelines for future application of the approach, considering the regional context.

The expected outcomes of this event are:

Identification of learning, barriers and success factors in the application of M4P approach in Latin America

Sharing of useful instruments for the different stages of M4P framework

Jointly building guidelines for future implementation of the approach

Generation of learning meeting among practitioners and definition of relevant topics and mechanism for future exchange and collaborations in the region.

ASOCAM implemented the website www.esm4p.info (in Spanish), which presents useful material, and the contents and reflections from the the event will be uploaded here including presentations, results of group works, thematic synthesis, learning and guidelines.
