Many programmes hesitate to assess system change. Yet, with events accelerating globally, there has never been a more important time to understand system change and to adapt and improve accordingly.
This webinar provides real-world examples and tips from programmes that have started to assess system change. The focus will be on getting started using manageable steps that build on programmes’ existing results measurement systems, rather than aiming for a ‘perfect’ assessment of system change.
The webinar draws on A pragmatic approach to assessing system change which outlines a process that programmes can use to assess system changes regularly and practically.
The emphasis is on understanding system-wide change by applying a ‘helicopter lens’ and using that information to adapt strategies. The panellists discuss:
- why they began to assess system change
- what they have done to assess system change in practice, including how they overcame hurdles they encountered
- how assessing system change has helped them.
Expect to leave the webinar with sensible steps, workable tips and inspiration to assess system change.

About the programmes:
GROW Liberia is an agri-business and investment advisory programme that partners with businesses, investors, associations and government agencies to accelerate inclusive economic growth. Ritesh will focus on GROW’s experience in the cocoa sector targeting premium markets.
The Market Development Facility (MDF) operates in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste and is expanding in the Pacific. It promotes sustainable economic development through higher incomes for women and men. Ajla Vilogorac will share MDF's experience in investigating system change through examples of Fiji’s sugarcane industry and the outsourced services sector.
PRABRIDDHI is a local economic development programme that focuses on building the competitiveness of specific municipalities in Bangladesh. Farzana will explain how PRABRIDDHI has defined an economic system for individual municipalities and has started to assess changes in competitiveness.
