Getting to scale - resources and questions!

Hi group!

Resources from the recent webinar on getting to scale with Gareth Davies, Julian Hamilton-Peach and Peter Roggekamp are now available, including a video recording and presentations.

We also received over 40 questions on the topic, some of which we ran out of time to answer. Please include any questions (or answers!) you have on getting to scale below, and we'll do our best to see them answered. Here's a flavour:

How to get to scale in thin markets?
How can we measure our impact through scaling?
How should we approach trade-offs between large scale 'hanging in' or, vs short/medium scale 'stepping out'?
How to get to scale in a tiny market full of humanitarian responses?
Should the focus be on where we can have maximum value for money while considering scale versus depth of programming?
How can we handle the need for long-term tapering-off of projects and interventions?

Over to you!

The report clearly presents the findings from the study with strategies and lessons that emerged from the data. I am curious as to what sort of capacity building was provided for the teams that were able to facilitate getting to scale. It just seems that all of the strategies and the lessons learned require competent staff that know how to facilitate and monitor the business case for each intervention that is intended to facilitate getting to scale. For instance- strategy 1-Achieve Scale through Big Actors. This would require staff to know how to hold stakeholder meetings and work with large actors-- what preparation was needed for this to be achieved? And for Lesson 3: Early on, Check the business case-- what do staff need for this? what were the effective mechanisms to build capacity in this area? cheers and happy new year everyone!
