Transport in the region

Kevin, yes you are correct. Transport is a key dis-enabler for most of these markets during this time and this needs to get resolved. This may require MSD programmes who are active in these markets to play a convening role, as we spoke about during the webinar, to get government to act. We need to ensure that agriculture, which is an essential service, has these logistics constraints resolved. Key is that MSD programmes act quickly. We need to protect the gains of markets that we have worked so hard to build over the years.

Biggest impact has been on local Transport

Debra I keep in contact with folk in East Africa and it appears one serious disruption of CV-19 restriction has been on Transport often with severe consequents. Not just the problem of cross-border trade (with TZ again playing a very disruptive role) but on local short distance travel often of perishables like vegetables. Over zealous road blocks and silly rules mean trucks can't overnight near the market at which the driver arrived later (because of delays) and can not travel back because of curfew regs. This poor implementation proceedures makes things worse.
