Interesting conversation on the livestock sub-sector.
I am currently looking into grey and academic literature on the issue of child labour in cattle herding, keeping and wider livestock sub-sector, any Mic-er with interesting documents to share? There does not seem to be much out there on this topic apart from the seminal 2013 report from FAO: http://www.fao.org/3/i3098e/i3098e.pdf

Thanks in advance!

Dear Esther

Following on from Karri’s reply, please also check out LEGS – the Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards Handbook, available for free download in pdf format here: https://www.livestock-emergency.net/download-legs/#purchase-legs. Chapter 9 on ‘provision of livestock’ includes the option of providing livestock as a new livelihood activity following a crisis, as well as ‘restocking’, and case study 9.5 in the chapter appendix may also be of interest.

Best wishes

Cathy

Hi Esther,
This is a very broad question, but I encourage you to do some searches on the SEEP Network website, the Marketlinks website, and the Food Security Network website. There is a wealth of resources, tools, case studies, etc... but it depends on exactly what you are looking for...

good luck!
