Although this was before I knew about the MERS, when working with Oxfam on USAID funded piece of work to look at the application of PCMAs (pre-crisis market analysis) for WASH, we made a huge effort to try and coordinate analysis of local WASH systems in conjunction with local Clusters or national emergency response bodies to ensure that all (I)NGOs, public and private sector actors involved in these bodies (or who should be involved) played a role in data collection, analysis and deliberation on recommendations for coordinated emergency response and preparedness activities informed by the PCMA. This did include a period of learning too - capacity building these different actors on doing PCMAs and building integrated a suite of data collection tools (e.g. needs, systems, gender, KAP assessments) together to build more efficient data collection and reduce fatigue amongst the respondents. A robust data collection and feedback mechanism was put in place to manage all the different teams collecting data simultaneously and to adapt data collection activities to answers we were getting. There was also a collaborative workshopping to analysis the data together at the end of the process. By doing this, every actor involved in emergency response and preaparedness understood WASH system vulnerabilities to different shock/stress scenarios and opened everyone's eyes to programming opportunities not seen before. The rationale for the changes we wanted to make to plans and programming design to make it easier to build buy-in and reduce conflicting programming when it came to response. I would hope that this analysis created a baseline understanding that was updated and programmes adapted in line since but I do not have visibility of this since the project ended. Would have been great to have used the MERS to push the need for continuation of this coordinated approach at the end of this project. My fear is that without such a standard these can be one-offs rather than systematic. Anyone else been able to see any long term, recurrent use of coordinated EMMAs, PCMAs etc to inform responses beyond just cash interventions? Katie

The [Northeast Nigeria Joint Livelihood and Market Recovery Assessment](https://beamexchange.org/resources/1027/) (2017) is a good example of coordination between agencies for joint market analysis. I guess it is a bit of an older example, but it was great in-country cooperation, and the donors absolutely loved the result.
