TOMAK Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Analysis (GESIA)

Published by
Adam Smith International

This Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Analysis (GESIA) highlights the socio-cultural norms and context in which women and men live and make decisions in rural Timor-Leste.

TOMAK, an agricultural livelihoods programme in Timor-Leste, undertook the GESIA during its inception.

The GESIA used a global empowerment framework incorporating aspects of women’s empowerment broader than solely economic empowerment. The process explored social and cultural norms and highlightedfactors other than gender that can impact on inclusion, such as age, status, ethnicity and disability. Cross-generational gender analysis was also undertaken to highlight differences between men and women from different generations.
