Improved marketing of products

iDE uses market-based approaches in agriculture, water, sanitation, hygiene and finance to change the living conditions and livelihoods of people around the globe.

Sanitation Market Systems (SanMarkS) is an iDE WASH project in Bangladesh addressing the sanitation gap - almost 40 million individuals in rural Bangladesh use shared toilet facilities or only have access to unimproved, unhygienic latrines.

Intervention description

SanMarkS works with private sector actors in the sanitation sector to promote affordable, hygienic latrines through:

  • market research
  • product design
  • targeted marketing strategies

This report discusses how iDE has used marketing strategies to reach rural customers.

Evidence methodology

The report is mainly compiled through an analysis of IDE’s own experience in the sanitation sector.
