This case study looks explores Uganda Value Added Maize Alliance's (UVAMA) work in the Uganda maize sector for modernising the traditional small farmer system and bringing it into the supply chain of a sophisticated company. 

Intervention description

It uses an organisational model that is both commercially viable and sustainable. UVAMA is creating value that benefits the maize sector by:

  • improving access to markets for existing and new entrants
  • upgrading physical technology and practices for improved productivity
  • improving knowledge and skills of actors in the system

The case study is based on data from programme surveys and information from programme staff.
