This paper defines the conditions of system change and discusses the need for a shift in system conditions and relationships between people who make up a system. It also provides examples of systems change in action.

Although systems change is not a new concept, foundations, non-profits and institutions are hailing it as a promising way to achieve greater impact.

However, despite ongoing interest, funders and grantees still struggle to grasp and apply the concept and its implications and fail to reach the ambitious goals of lasting change.
