Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Mainstreaming in DFID’s PSD programme in the DRC

A description of the programme’s approach and lessons learnt

DFID's DRC programme has sought to mainstream GESI throughout its programmes.

It used programme logframes to incentivise focus on GESI and each project adopted different approaches to mainstreaming and measuring GESI in workstreams.

The indicators addressed gender but not the broader issues of gender equality, equity and social inclusion. However, each project hightlights successful outcomes that support their approach and ELAN found new ways to monitor the change it has delivered in this area.

A number of recommendations result from the DFID DRC programme experience.

It is split into three programmes:

  • ELAN's MSD programme working in agriculture, finance, renewable energy and transport
  • Essor's Business Environment Reform project
  • The DSU, supporting ELAN and Essor
