PEPZ aims to tackle low levels of productivity and to increase the competitiveness of the private sector by strengthening the capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
It does this through activities that build the skills and capabilities of firms, help firms access finance for investment, and link small companies to big suppliers and multinationals.
Its original design had four components: SMEs accelerator, business linkages, BDS, and a nationwide entrepreneurship competition. It focuses on tourism, agriculture and mining.
