Lessons learnt from post-disaster market systems approaches in action following the 2015 Nepal earthquake.
The Market Development Forum Nepal (MDFN) organised a peer learning event in Kathmandu, Nepal in November 2015, to hear from a variety of international and local speakers on the lessons learned and how market facilitation was supported and built into early response programming.
This report provides a summary of the presentations, questions and discussions that took place. Key questions addressed were:
- How have organisations adapted their responses post-disaster, and adapted their development approaches so recovery efforts are more market-based and sustainable?
- Which markets were observed to be more vulnerable after the earthquake and/or more distorted due to recovery efforts?
