GOGLA - the Global Off Grid Lighting Association – is looking for an excellent facilitator for a workshop in Nairobi in April. In 2017 GOGLA's members sold around 8 million solar lanterns and solar home system products to off-grid BoP customers. Products deliver social, environmental and economic impacts – though the end-of-life management of these products in the industry is a weakness. It’s a problem on the horizon in terms of environmental concerns, but also a business risk as out-of-service branded products get refurbished and go back onto the market with dubious quality. Improved end-of-life management faces challenges along the supply chain - collection, logistics, recycling and financing – though there are opportunities and some good practice from market leaders. GOGLA is organizing an electronic waste workshop in Nairobi in April (date TBC). We will bring together GOGLA members and some investors to map the main challenges and identify projects to develop the e-waste capacity of the sector. We are looking for a consultant who is an excellent facilitator – ideally someone who knows the off-grid solar sector (or similar market) and ideally also a bit about e-waste. Please contact me if you are interested to work on this short assignment.
