Project description / objective

Sustained increases in farmers´ income, disaster resilience and resistance to environmental and economic shocks.

Market system focus

Cacao

The project aims to establish a significant cacao production base with primary processing facilities to produce high quality dried cacao beans to be sold on the international markets.

Programme interventions

Cacao

Establishment of a commercial support system providing a wide range of quality services (access to inputs, technologies, credit, market, and know-how) for cacao farmers.

  • Increasing technical skills and knowledge of cacao growers through field training, on-site demonstrations and exchange visits.
  • Increasing access to quality inputs through linkage with the private sector.
  • Establishing partnerships among key public and private stakeholders and smallholder farmers.

Notable results (systemic change, poverty impact)

Cacao

Eastern Samar Cacao Industry Development Council was established in 2017 thanks to the facilitation efforts of an earlier team. This is a coordination platform consisting of cacao growers, representatives from cacao growers and private and public sector.

In 2018, the Provincial Governor recognised its existence by official executive order and mandated funding for the operations of the council.
