A poverty assessment of Market Development (MADE) in the Niger Delta Programme and the Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) was initiated in May 2018 to establish a deeper understanding of the characteristics of poverty in the Niger Delta, taking samples from the seven value chains.

Analysis was carried out on MADE and PIND interventions in:

  • cassava
  • fisheries
  • palm oil

And specifically for MADE:

  • agricultural inputs
  • leather and poultry

And for PIND:

  • business linkages.

The assessment also provided an opportunity to develop relevant classifications of programme participants to distinguish different levels of poverty.
