This paper looks at how CARE's Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain (SDVC) programme in Bangladesh worked to empower women in the rural dairy value chain.

By engaging men, such as the husbands, women in the dairy value chain in Bangladesh are more successful than the women whose husbands are not engaged and they express that they are empowered by being increasingly involved in managing money matters and decision-making.

The SDVC programme sought to double the monthly income of small-scale producers in Bangladesh, creating more sustainable livelihoods for dairy farmers by incorporating them into a strengthened dairy value chain.
