The Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain (SDVC) programme sought to double the monthly income of small-scale producers in Bangladesh, creating more sustainable livelihoods for dairy farmers by incorporating them into a strengthened dairy value chain.

This report provides the final evaluation for SDVC II.

Beneficiaries of the SDVC II programme are the seven districts of North and Northwest Bangladesh (25,000 households or ~175,000 individuals) earning $20-30 per month. These are milk-producing landless farmers who own an average of two cows and produce about 10 per cent of milk in the region; and small-scale farmers who own an average of 2.9 cows and produce about 80 percent of the milk.

The programme also had a significant impact on women, who make up a majority of the targeted dairy farmers, perform most of the animal management
work, and are extensively involved in the decision making with respect to dairy farming.
