BEAM learning agenda

BEAM Exchange aims to help grow an informed and engaged community of practice. Consulting the market systems community is therefore an important part of our approach. We carry out regular reviews on community development and other specific issues, including:

Consultation report

Before launching in 2014, we carried out an extensive consultation process to shape BEAM around the views, needs and priorities of the market systems community. Our consultation process revealed that:

  • Donor staff (both at headquarters and in-country) and the individuals and organisations implementing market systems programmes in the field require the most support.
  • Priority themes included the challenges of identifying and measuring systemic change. In general, practitioners said they need more support in the 'how to' of market systems approaches, for instance how to analyse market failures and negotiate with businesses
  • Practitioners expressed the need for more support in matchmaking, signposting to accredited experts, secondments and exchanges. They also saw face-to-face events as important ways to build trust and relations in the practitioner community.
